9/5/16 #InTheMixMonday ft. Keyz "Ankheart" EP Review

Keyzus

Written by Anwar Curtis

When you look at something with a vision full of pre-judgmental thoughts how do you see? If you speak more than you listen what do you hear? Why is it so important to be accepted and what is the reasoning behind acceptance? It takes a true vision and constant vulnerability for one to get through so much discretion and expose creativity, and music producer/recording artist Keyzus is no stranger to programming. Having production credits with artists such as Rick Ross, Maino, Fat Trel, Sha Stimuli, Dred Skeezy, and in-house credits with colleagues JohnBorne, Rawston George, LRDRA, and Drew Tyrell; Keyz Da Don has been on a roll as a producer but how does he perceive himself, Keyzus the emcee?

On August 15th, Keyz released his sophomore album Ankheart. He took the opportunity to open up lyrically and expressed how he became the man Maschine he is today. Songs like INTRO, WAY ABOVE, and 4MYSELF, Keyz constructs lyrical content to match his vigorous production skills allowing listeners to see Rawston Street (Harrisburg, Pa) and why the Maschine Life lifestyle are so important to his overall ambience. Individuals often judge a producer or songwriter by his or her sound and aggressive wordplay, others may think a Maschine like Keyz only creates with dramatic synths, heavy drums and a loud delivery. Yes, that is one formula visited on this album but songs like RCKY FRVR, HOLD ON TO LOVE, and YOUR MIND, showcases how versatile his sound and content formula really his.
